Description
The ginkgo is a native to China and figures prominently in Asian art. Chinese monks brought the ginkgo to Japan, where it was planted in temple gardens. The ginkgo’s fan-shaped leaf has carried symbolism along with its beauty, and has been a symbol of longevity. The ginkgo tree can live for a thousand years. The stalk of the ginkgo leaves forms the protective layer simultaneously, and once there is a hard frost all leaves to drop at the same time, resulting in a thick yellow carpet.
I love the color yellow and every fall I wait for the ginkgo leaves to turn yellow with the sun highlighting the leaves. One must have patience to find the yellow carpet of ginkgo leaves. On this fall evening the sun lite these ginkgo leaves giving them a golden glow at Libby Hill Park in Richmond, Virginia
